The Three Evangelists appeared in English in 2006, and this is the long awaited sequel by Frédérique Audoin-Rouzeau, AKA Fred Vargas. The story opens with the bizarre discovery of a human toe bone in a random dog turd. Louis Kehlweiler is the sharp-eyed observer. He is a former investigator, but has fallen on hard times. He enlists the help of evangelist Marc Vandoosier in the difficult task of tracing the dog responsible for the unique piece of evidence. The pit bull terrier is traced to a Breton fishing village. Louis and Marc are joined by Mathias Delamarre, another evangelist, as they strive to solve the crime. The French original was published in 1996, but this new translation is by Sian Reynolds.
